Corporate Tax Filing Services in the UAE: A Clear Guide

By October 2025, the number of Corporate Tax registrants in the UAE had exceeded 640,000, up from 538,000 before April 2025, according to the Federal Tax Authority announcement on record Corporate Tax returns. Corporate tax filing services are the support a business uses to register, work out its taxable income, file on time and keep the records behind every figure, even when the tax payable is zero.

What Corporate Tax Filing Services Are

Corporate tax filing services are the practical help a business uses to register for UAE Corporate Tax, work out its taxable income, submit its annual return to the Federal Tax Authority, pay any tax due, and keep the records that support each figure. The Federal Tax Authority is the federal regulator that administers, collects and enforces the tax. You're not buying a single form. You're buying a controlled workflow that runs from registration to archive.

Consider it an exam. The return is the answer paper, the books kept all year are your working notes, and a good service checks the working notes long before the paper goes in. If the notes don't add up, the answer won't hold up when the authority asks questions.

What law created this filing duty?

The United Arab Emirates introduced its first federal corporate tax framework through Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022, signed on 3 October 2022 and published in the Official Gazette on 10 October 2022, as set out by the Ministry of Finance page on Corporate Tax in the UAE. Its provisions apply to financial years beginning on or after 1 June 2023. That change turned tax filing from a planning choice into a nationwide compliance duty for businesses trading under a UAE commercial licence.

Who needs to file?

Taxable persons in Mainland Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah need to register and file, and so do qualifying Free Zone businesses. Your licence type and location change how income is treated, but they don't remove the duty to register, keep records and submit a return or declaration. A consultant working from a Free Zone desk and a trading company with a Mainland warehouse both sit inside the same federal system.

Hundreds of thousands of returns and annual declarations were processed for taxpayers with a 31 December 2024 year end ahead of the end of September 2025 deadline. That scale tells you this isn't a narrow service for large groups. It's now a standard annual task for most UAE companies, and I would plan it as part of your monthly accounting rhythm, not as a rush at year end.

What a Filing Service Covers, Stage by Stage

A filing service covers registration, computation, submission, payment tracking, liaison with the authority and recordkeeping. If a provider only offers to upload a return, you're still carrying most of the risk yourself.

Stage What the provider handles What you receive Risk if skipped
Registration Obtains the Corporate Tax Registration Number and keeps the taxable-person profile current Registration confirmation and number Late registration can trigger an AED 10,000 administrative penalty
Income computation Adjusts accounting profit for tax rules, exempt income and loss positions Computation workpapers Overpaying tax or filing an incorrect taxable income figure
Return preparation and submission Prepares the annual return and files it through EmaraTax Filed return and submission confirmation Missing the nine-month filing deadline
Payment and tracking Confirms the amount due, arranges payment and monitors key dates Payment record and deadline calendar Late-payment penalties and cash-flow surprises
Liaison with the FTA Answers queries, audit requests and document requests Correspondence log Unanswered notices that escalate
Recordkeeping Stores books, invoices and supporting documents Retrievable document archive Penalties for failing to keep adequate records

Does VAT registration count for Corporate Tax?

No. VAT registration does not satisfy corporate-tax registration, so a taxable business must create or update its taxable-person profile in the Federal Tax Authority's EmaraTax portal and obtain a Corporate Tax Registration Number, as explained on the Federal Tax Authority Corporate Tax registration service page. EmaraTax is the government's online platform for tax registration, returns and declarations. Late registration can trigger an AED 10,000 administrative penalty under that same guidance.

How is taxable income worked out?

Taxable income is accounting profit adjusted for tax rules. Say your accounts show a profit, but they include fines, penalties and private costs. Those items are added back, while tax-exempt income and eligible losses are taken out, and each adjustment gets a short note explaining why it was made.

Liaison means answering authority letters, document requests and audit questions within the time stated, then logging every exchange. Recordkeeping means your invoices, ledgers and workpapers sit in one retrievable archive, not across inboxes and personal drives. We handle company formation, trade licences, Emirates IDs and visas, PRO services, corporate bank accounts, accounting and tax services, so we see filing as part of that wider record system.

Ask any provider one question before you sign. Which stage does each task fall under, and who signs off on each one?

Why Founders Outsource Corporate Tax Filing

Founders outsource because a provider already knows the EmaraTax steps, tracks the dates, and repeats the same checks every period, while you keep control of the final decisions. It suits busy owners who don't want tax dates sitting in one person's memory.

  • Deadline control: The provider builds the nine-month cutoff and any earlier waiver date into one shared calendar.
  • Lower penalty exposure: Registration tracking and a fixed filing process reduce the chance of late registration or weak records.
  • Cleaner taxable income: A review of each adjustment catches fines, private costs and wrong loss claims before filing.
  • Faster answers to the authority: Letters and document requests are logged and answered on time, so small queries don't escalate.
  • Predictable cost: A fixed fee or monthly retainer is easier to plan than the salary, benefits and software for an in-house tax role.

The trade-off is clear. Outsourcing doesn't move legal responsibility for the return, which stays with your company and its directors. I would still review every computation before it's submitted, even when a provider prepared it.

How a Filing Moves From Registration to Payment

The sequence is simple to state: register, close the books, classify income, compute, check, approve, submit, pay and keep. The work sits in doing each step in order, with evidence you can find later.

The diagram below shows the full path from registration to payment.

An eight-step infographic illustrating the corporate tax filing process from registration to payment for UAE businesses.

  1. Confirm registration status: Check that the Corporate Tax Registration Number exists and that the taxable-person profile matches the trade licence. A name or licence mismatch causes queries later.
  2. Close the books: Reconcile the general ledger to bank statements and invoices, because unreconciled entries are a common source of errors. You must provide accurate, complete and updated documentation, comply with UAE laws, and pay service fees and government deposits on time.
  3. Classify income: Separate Mainland income from Free Zone income and note related-party transactions, which are deals between connected businesses or people. Treatment depends on where income arises and who it's with.
  4. Adjust accounting profit: Add back non-deductible items such as fines and private expenses, deduct allowable items, and record the reason for every adjustment in the workpapers.
  5. Check loss and interest positions: Confirm carried-forward losses and restricted items are applied correctly. A wrong claim in one year distorts the next year too.
  6. Review and approve: Have the finance owner or a director sign the computation before submission. Set that internal approval date several weeks before the statutory cutoff.
  7. Submit through EmaraTax: File the return or simplified return and save the confirmation straight away. Don't rely on a screenshot buried in a chat thread.
  8. Pay and retain: Pay any tax due by the deadline and store the return, payment proof and workpapers together.

What does a good filing calendar show?

It shows the statutory date and your internal sign-off date side by side, with a named owner for each. If those two dates are the same day, you don't have a buffer. You have a hope.

The short video below walks through the filing logic in plain terms, so you can follow the order before your own year end arrives.

Practical rule: Close the books monthly. A year-end rebuild costs more, takes longer, and leaves less time to fix errors before the cutoff.

Deadlines and Penalties to Plan Around

A zero tax bill does not remove the filing deadline. The annual return and any tax due are generally required within nine months after the end of the tax period. The Federal Tax Authority Corporate Tax Bulletin states that taxable persons must file through EmaraTax no later than nine months after the relevant tax period ends. For a company with a 31 December year end, that generally means filing and paying by 30 September of the following year.

Event Rule Example Practical effect
Annual return and tax payment Due within nine months after the end of the tax period A 31 December year end gives 30 September of the following year Set an internal review date before the statutory deadline
Late registration AED 10,000 administrative penalty A company registers after the required date without a waiver Track the registration date from the outset
FTA waiver initiative The FTA may waive a late-filing penalty when the first return is filed within a short early window The exact date depends on the tax period Confirm the applicable date on EmaraTax

How does the waiver change your timing?

The FTA may waive a late-filing penalty if a first return is filed within a short period after the first tax period ends. This is separate from the general nine-month filing deadline, and the exact waiver date depends on your period. Check the date shown for your account on EmaraTax before relying on penalty relief.

Use the UAE corporate tax filing deadlines guide to review the standard timing, then set a calendar entry based on your own tax period. Record the applicable statutory deadline, any earlier waiver date that applies, and an internal review date. Assign an owner to each, so the filing does not depend on an assumed handover. A nil tax bill still requires the return and its supporting records to be managed on time.

Why Small Business Relief Still Leaves You Filing

A nil tax bill does not mean a nil filing obligation. Small Business Relief is an election that may reduce the tax due for eligible resident businesses, but the return and supporting records remain part of the compliance work.

Who qualifies for Small Business Relief?

The Federal Tax Authority page on Small Business Relief sets out the election for eligible UAE businesses with revenue of AED 3 million or less in the current tax period and every previous tax period ending on or before 31 December 2026. The election applies separately to each tax period, so it does not carry forward automatically. Businesses claiming relief still submit the applicable return or simplified return through EmaraTax by the filing deadline.

The Ministry of Finance announced an extension of the relief through tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2029 in its announcement on extending Small Business Relief. The relief is not available to Qualifying Free Zone Persons or members of multinational enterprise groups, including groups with consolidated revenue above AED 3.15 billion. A Qualifying Free Zone Person is a Free Zone business that meets the conditions for 0% tax on qualifying income.

Keep the revenue calculation, eligibility assessment, invoices and ledgers with the return. A claim made in error can affect tax-loss and disallowed net interest carryforwards, so record why the business qualifies for each period, even when no tax is payable.

For example, a Dubai Free Zone consultancy serving only foreign clients may owe no tax, but it still needs to register, maintain its records, assess its position each period and file. The guide to the AED 3 million threshold and small business readiness explains how to prepare for a change in eligibility.

What Outsourcing Costs and What Drives the Fee

There's no single price we can publish here, because the fee depends on your structure and the state of your records. What you should expect is an itemised quote before work starts, with no vague bundled total.

Pricing model How it is charged Best fit Watch for
Fixed fee per annual return One price covering one return and its supporting workpapers A single entity with simple income and clean books Extra work if records need rebuilding
Monthly retainer Recurring monthly fee covering computation, deadline tracking and FTA liaison Companies needing continuous support or several entities Confirm which queries and audits are included
Hourly or project rate Billed by time or per defined project Groups, audits, restructuring or catch-up years Open-ended cost unless capped in writing
Bundled package One fee covering accounting, VAT and corporate tax filing Founders who want one provider for all filings Check whether government fees are shown separately

What are the two layers of a bill?

Government fees are amounts set by the relevant authorities, and they're often charged separately from professional fees. Professional fees are what you pay for the provider's work itself, such as computation, filing and liaison. We state that the quote provided on day one is the amount payable, with all government fees and professional service costs itemised upfront, and we provide itemised quotes through our cost estimator or on request.

Fees move with the number of legal entities, the mix of Mainland and Free Zone activity, and the volume of related-party transactions. They also move with the quality of your books at the start, the number of authority queries, and whether earlier periods need catch-up work. I would ask each provider what happens if a second year must be rebuilt, because that's where unplanned fees usually appear.

Choosing a Provider and Booking Your Filing Review

A provider review should leave you with clear responsibilities, a filing calendar and a defined fee scope. A nil tax bill does not remove the need to prepare records, review the return and meet filing obligations.

What should you check before you sign?

  1. Written scope: Confirm which filing stages the provider handles and who is responsible for each one.
  2. Deadline calendar: Ask for the statutory dates and the internal dates for document delivery and sign-off.
  3. Relevant experience: Check that the provider works with Mainland and Free Zone entities and understands your financial year.
  4. Access rules: Agree how ledgers will be shared, who holds EmaraTax access and where records will be stored.
  5. Fee breakdown: Make sure professional fees and government charges are itemised separately.
  6. Response time: Confirm how quickly the provider will respond to authority letters and audit requests.
  7. Data handling: Ask which parties may receive your information when required for filing or compliance, such as government bodies, banks or translators.

Watch for warning signs. A promise of zero tax before anyone reviews the books, no written scope, unclear sign-off responsibility or pressure to pay before receiving a quote can point to weak controls. Clean monthly records make year-end review easier. Founders who need ongoing support can consider accounting and bookkeeping services in Dubai.
